Baumhardt TV Service
This anthropomorphic TV tube was the mascot for Baumhardt TV Service at 303 Church Street in Amherst. The artwork of the smiling and helpful mascot is from a 1970 Lorain phone book ad.
Pestban Exterminating Company
This munching mascot was used for the Pestban Exterminating Company at 166 Cleveland Street in Elyria, Ohio. The image appeared in the November 1973 phone book.
Jiovanazzo Electric
This wired guy was the advertising mascot for Jiovanazzo Electric at 545 Ohio in Elyria. Like the buggy mascot above, the image is from the November 1973 Elyria Phone Book.
Moore & Meyers Lawn Mower Repair
This mowing man was the advertising mascot for Moore & Meyers Lawn Mower Repair in the mid-1960s. At that time, the company was located at 1004 W. Erie Avenue in Lorain, across from the Antlers Hotel.
The Lorain Telephone Company
This phoney character appeared in 1961 phone book ads for the Lorain Telephone Company, educating customers on the number to dial to get the correct time: CH 4-9111.
L & J Carpet Work Shop
This genial genie was the advertising mascot for L & J Carpet Work Shop at 2217 W. 21st Street in Lorain. The company provided custom carpet service featuring tackless installation. They also provided cleaning, laying, binding, sewing, sizing and mothproofing.
The chubby genie waved his wand in a 1961 phone book ad and then promptly disappeared.
Clovervale Creamery
This creamery character (in the act of stamping something) is from a 1962 Clovervale Creamery advertisement. Clovervale Creamery was located at 226 Connecticut in Lorain, with retail stores in Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake, North Ridgeville and Vermilion.
He was replaced with a cow mascot around the mid-1960s, which must have been an udder disappointment to whoever designed him.
The Lorain Telephone Company
In the late 1950s the Lorain Telephone Company employed this mortar board-wearing mascot in ads to promote the fact that the Yellow Pages "hold the answers." Sometimes he was a floating head as shown, and sometimes he actually had a body.
Dugan's
This delicious character was the mascot for Dugan's in the 1963 Elyria phone book. Dugan's was known for their seventy varieties of donuts.
My question is: how would the donut mascot eat? It would seem that anything he tossed into his gaping maw would just drop behind him!
Carpet Specialists
This turban-wearing character was the 1968 mascot for Carpet Specialists in Lorain at 351 Broadway. The company provided a full line of carpeting and specialized in smooth edge installations.
I wonder if every carpet shop in Lorain County had a genie for a mascot?
Bill's Self Serve Thrifty Wash
Schofield Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners
I guess every company that had something to do with carpeting in Lorain County DID use a magic-carpet riding genie or sultan-type as an advertising mascot!
